On Saturday, November 14, 2020 Upstate held the first Dirt Late Model race at the new location in downtown Spartanburg. The LMP bodies were exchanged for a DLM body and three racers ran the first race with Terry Kelly of Kelly Racing won racing a Ralph Thorne (RTR) DLM that he purchased off the shelf and prepped and painted the same day as the race.
DLM entered in quietly, announced for months in advance and anticipated by the Wednesday evening Flexi racing group.
The second advance in racing at Upstate is GTP. MidAmerica has made and shipped 8 GTP cars with Phoenix motors. These cars will be faster than any class we have run so far on an Upstate track. The sell of these cars will begin the first racing week in December and are sure to create a buzz. This will be a Flexi class racer but not the same as the LMP and DLM set up which runs a Hawk 7.
Also, before the New Year the Stock Car class will received an LMP body made for running on the Protrack Chassis. While it shares the same name as the Flexi LMP, this car will race very different since it will be much heavier and a four wheel design.
